Why did you choose to attend Mayville State University?
I chose Mayville State University for three reasons. The first and most important reason is the excellent Elementary Education program. The second reason is the outstanding baseball program, and the third is the great duck hunting in the area.

What do you like best about the major you’re pursuing?
What I like best about Elementary Education is the degree of influence that you can have and the potential to help students in the classroom, as well as in life. As elementary teachers, we have the unique opportunity to be a role model for many students. We also have the chance to help students realize and reach their full potential.

What do you like best about Mayville State in general?
My favorite aspect of Mayville State is the sense of community felt throughout the campus. There is a connection and a sense of belonging for all students and faculty. As a student, it is great to know that the faculty and staff truly care about me and are willing to go the extra mile to help me succeed.  The relationships you build with professors and fellow students are irreplaceable.

Do you participate in any activities related to your major/minor? Internships? Work Study? Other?
I participate in Student Education Association, which provides experiences that will benefit us as future teachers. I coach youth baseball in the summer as a way to gain more experience as well as positively influence the young athletes involved.

Have you had any unique opportunities, in or out of the classroom, while you’ve been enrolled at Mayville State?
There have been numerous opportunities both in and out of the classroom while I have been at Mayville State University. In the classroom, I have had opportunities to get hands-on experience and knowledge necessary to become an excellent teacher. The professors work side by side with you to ensure that you get the best experience and information that you need. There are many opportunities presented through classes or different organizations that will help you find your interests and pursue your passions.

What MSU clubs, organizations, or athletic activities do you participate in?
I participate in Campus Crusade for Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Cometeers, Student Education Association, and baseball.

How have these activities enhanced your college experience?
The size of Mayville’s campus presents a unique opportunity to get involved in many activities and organizations. This helps you grow as an individual and gives you experiences that benefit you the rest of your life. Each organization provides a specific experience and leadership role that can benefit you.  Many of these activities have helped me develop relationships and the sense of community has positively affected my experience.

What has been your greatest moment as a Mayville State student?
There is not a specific moment that has been the greatest for me as a student, but rather the overall experience. The friendships and growth that I have experienced though the many activities I’ve participated in have really been the greatest moments for me as a student. Organizations such as Campus Crusade for Christ and Fellowship of Christian Athletes have provided some of the greatest experiences that I have had as a student here. They have helped me grow and develop into the person I am today and I would not trade that for anything.

What does personal service mean to you?
Personal service can take many forms. When I think of personal service, the word “sacrifice” most often comes to mind. Sacrificing our own personal needs and wants in order to benefit others is a pure form of personal service. The many organizations that I have had the privilege to be a part of have exemplified this sacrificial service. It has helped me to understand what personal service truly looks like: it is the giving up of yourself in order to benefit those around you. I believe this is what Mayville State offers via its faculty and staff, and the opportunities provided.

What are your plans after graduating from Mayville State?
After graduating from Mayville State, I plan on getting a job as an elementary teacher and high school sports coach in a smaller community. These jobs would give me a chance to help mold young people into great young men and women. It would allow me to guide them to accomplish things they never thought they could. In addition to teaching, I would like to pursue a master’s degree in elementary education. I would also like to run a summer Bible camp with an emphasis on hunting and fishing where young people would get the opportunity to experience the outdoors and personal growth.
