Tutoring New Americans is a service-learning project run by Dr. Kelli Odden and Dr. Thomas Craig and with the assistance of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Students enrolled in GEOG 300: World Regional Geography and Anthropology and EDUC 381: Human Relations and Diversity drive to the Grand Forks every Wednesday. During these tutoring sessions, students have the opportunity to work with people from all over the world that want to practice conversational English or need assistance with homework, filling out employment documentation, or studying for a citizenship test. The collaboration between Mayville State University, the Grand Forks Public Library, and East Grand Forks High School, is a great venue to expose our students to work with individuals of all ages, socio-economic experiences, and cultural backgrounds.

In the fall of 2019, our students tutored 18 Aerospace Foundation students that are in Grand Forks to learn English.

In the spring of 2020, our students volunteered at East Grand Forks High School. (See photo above.)
