MSU Online Technology Requirements

What if I have problems or questions about my device?

The Service Desk is located in the basement of the Library in Room B06. If a major repair is needed, you will be required to use a warranty or third-party repair service.

Are computers available for temporary check-out?

Yes, if you provide evidence that your computer is being repaired.

Do I have to pay a technology fee?

All students enrolled at MSU must pay a technology fee.

Will financial aid be available to help pay the student technology fee?

Since there is a computer requirement for all students attending MSU, the technology fee is included as part of the financial aid package.

How will the laptop computer requirement benefit me while at MSU?

Students have access to the campus network, library resources and worldwide resources via the Internet. The computer may be used for course work and communicating with faculty and other students. Students have 24/7 access to their notebook computer for developing class presentations, generating spreadsheets and databases and discipline-specific applications. Continuous access to a notebook computer and the integration of technology in the classroom will better prepare students for their careers upon graduation.

What advantages does a laptop computer requirement have over a computer lab?

Students have 24/7 access to libraries and databases and can communicate with faculty and other students. Students are not restricted by the hours or availability of a computer lab.

Can I download pirated music and other illegal materials from the Internet with my computer?

Students are liable for any illegal activities on their computers. Pirated and other copyrighted items cannot be downloaded from the Internet. All students are required to follow North Dakota State Board of Higher Education Policy 1901.2.

Where can I print?

MSU has networked printers for student use strategically located throughout campus. Students must install printers before printing. All students are issued a 300-sheet printing allocation per semester for black-and-white printing, and may increase the allocation in increments of 100 sheets for $5.00.

What do I do if my computer is stolen?

Report a lost or stolen computer to law enforcement immediately. Computers are available for temporary check-out with evidence of a police report. Students are responsible for purchasing a replacement computer in a timely fashion.

Can the Service Desk assist with Blackboard problems?

How do I reset my MSU password?

Passwords may be reset by contacting the NDUS Help Desk at 1-866-457-6387, or through the NDUS Help Desk website.

How do I get help after hours?

The NDUS Help Desk is available to assist students 24 hours a day throughout the year. Chat and email options are available at the NDUS Help Desk website, or call 1-866-457-6387 to speak with a representative.
