Position Details:

The office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the focal point for meeting all the academic needs of the University, including management of academic divisions, hiring, tenure, promotion and development of faculty, coursework and curriculum development, accreditation, establishing and maintaining academic standards for students.

The Academic Affairs office is seeking an Executive Assistant with outstanding communication and management support skills to provide services to faculty, staff and students, clerical and general office assistance, good judgement, discretion, and independent initiative. The Executive Assistant supports the Vice President for Academic Affairs and interacts with the President, Cabinet members, students, faculty, staff, as well as members of the public. Responsibilities and Duties Include:

Bookstore - Part-time Merchandise Coordinator

Position Details:  This position is a part-time, non-benefited position which will primarily be responsible for customer service, cashiering and ordering merchandise.  In addition to shipment processing, receiving, invoicing, merchandising, and sales of books.  The Merchandise Coordinator works collaboratively with the other Bookstore staff to meet the needs of the Bookstore customers.

Hours:  Approximately 19 hours per week, 12 months per year, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. M-F.  Rare late hours or weekends may be required to meet seasonal demands of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.       Merchandising and Customer Service

  • Responsible for ordering and managing inventories for merchandise
  • Develop an understanding of the ordering processes and work closely with vendor sales representatives on product selection and deliveries
  • Coordinate buying programs, product mix, reordering of basic stock and initializing the markdown process to ensure the desired inventory levels are maintained
  • Individual will maintain a working knowledge of the general merchandise software to include applications and processes for improving department efficiencies
  • Responsible for cashier duties and providing good customer service.  Duties include daily cash and change sales for the store.  The individual must be proficient with all register functions and have a good understanding of transaction procedures and store policies

2.       Shipment Processing for Course Materials and Merchandise

  • Receive and organize incoming shipments
  • Assist with book buyback, rental returns, and web order fulfillment
  • Maintain accurate inventory records
  • Process invoices for payment and reconcile statements
  • Work with vendors on defective items and discrepancies
  • Process book returns and credit memo reconciliation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Secondary education or equivalent work experience in related field
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to positively interact with faculty/staff, students, customers, vendors, and other visitors
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet computer applications; willingness and ability to learn computer programs.  Experience with retail systems preferred

Position Information:  Mayville State University is seeking a Career and Academic Advisor. This position will focus most of their time (65%) on career preparation for all students, with special emphasis on first-year students and sophomores. There will also be significant time (35%) devoted to academic advising, especially new students, first-generation and undeclared students, and working very closely with the SOS program.

This position serves as a champion for all activities related to holistic career development for students. This includes such things as resume’ and cover letter review and the linking of meaningful campus engagement with a career development process, and includes the use of various surveys and instruments to determine student strengths, career/values alignment, etc.

The Career and Academic Advisor participates as a collaborative member of the Academic Advising Center with a focus on new students, first-generation and undeclared students, and integrates developmental academic advising through a career preparation lens.

It is expected that the person serving in this role will develop programming that furthers both areas of emphasis for both on-campus and online and distance students.

Position supervises one live-in professional staff member. TITLE: Resident Assistant

CLASS: Undergraduate

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director Student Life

The Resident Assistant (RA) facilitates the social, academic, and personal adjustment of students to the residence hall and University. The RA develops a sense of community among residents as members of a floor, residents of a hall, and active participants in the residence life system. The RA serves as a positive role model to residents and peer staff members. The RA enforces the rules and policies of Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services and the University. The RA acts as a liaison between residents and the University administration.

Academic

At the time of appointment, this Mayville State student must have completed a minimum of 24 completed semester hours at Mayville State, and must have a cumulative 2.6 GPA. Resident Assistants must earn 12-16 credit hours per semester (unless prior approval to do otherwise is obtained from the Director of Student Life) for continued employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants must show knowledge of the University and the residence hall system, of University and Residence Life policies and procedures, and describe their success as a student leader. Applicants must also have the following abilities: to communicate well in group and individual situations; to establish rapport with a wide variety of people; to design and implement experiences to meet specific established goals; and to quickly evaluate crisis situations and respond appropriately.

Physically Present and Visible

RAs live in a residence hall in a room assigned to them by Student Life. Being physically present is critical. In addition to respond to lockouts, emergency situations, and policy violations, which may or may not happen at any time of the day or the week, RAs also regularly monitor residence hall conditions and fill out maintenance and custodial orders as necessary. Approximately six times per month, an RA is "on duty" or on call, meaning they are the primary contact for a student needing assistance. Being on-call is an ideal time to be visible throughout the residence hall. It provides time to visit with residents and socialize with other RAs.

Contract

RAs live in a residence hall in a room assigned to them by Student Life and carry a board plan. Resident Assistants must complete the housing application and pay the required application fee and first payment through the housing portal.

First Year RAs are paid $7120 over nine months, in eighteen equal payments. Spring only RAs will have $3560 divided by nine pay periods.

The Sports Information Department at Mayville State University is looking for reliable student assistants to fill several roles within game day operations for all home sporting events on campus.

  • Students expressing an interest in pursuing a career in sports information will be given a priority.

-Broadcasters do not need any prior knowledge or experience in broadcasting, but will need to be willing to learn professional  broadcasting etiquette and develop a knowledgeable understanding of each sport.
