Veterans Benefit Programs and the GI Bill®
Numerous programs at Mayville State have been approved for certification for the various Veterans Administration educational benefit programs. There are many education benefits available through the VA and it is important to research these opportunities before submitting an application for benefits. Information about these different programs can be found at www.va.gov/education/.
A brief overview of the different types of veterans education benefits is provided below.
Note: The university's VA Certifying Official is not a VA employee and can only guide you to the source of information regarding VA programs. The certifying official is unable to counsel the veteran on eligibility.

| Transferability | To transfer VR&E benefits from one school to another, contact your current Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. |
| Note | A Veteran participating in the VR&E Program who qualifies for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits can elect to receive the GI Bill rate of pay instead of the regular Chapter 31 subsistence allowance. In most cases, the GI Bill rate is higher than the regular Chapter 31 rate of pay. To elect the GI Bill rate, the Veteran must have remaining eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and must formally choose (or “elect”) the GI Bill rate. Your Vocational Rehab Counselor can help you with election. Veterans participating in the VR&E Program who elect the Post-9/11 rate are paid at the 100% rate level for their school and training time, even if their Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility is less than 100%. Additional benefits are also available through the VR&E Program, such as payment of all required books, fees and supplies as well as other supportive services. |

| College Fund Raiser | Kickers are sometimes offered by the service member's branch as an enlistment or reenlistment contract. A kicker increases an individual's basic monthly benefit and is included in his or her VA payment. (Note: in order to receive this additional payment, you must provide a copy of your kicker contract when applying for VA benefits; the VA does not automatically know that you are entitled to a kicker. This program allows kickers up to $950 per month. |

Since October 1, 2019, the full time monthly rate is $1,248 for full-time training. For spouses: the duration of the benefit is 20 years from the service member’s date of death if they died on active duty, or 10 years from the date the VA determines they qualify (there may be exceptions). For children: Children of veterans may use benefits between the ages of 18 and 26 (there may be exceptions). Maximum months of benefits: 45 months |

If you are a surviving spouse or dependent child of a service member who died in the line of duty while on active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, you may also be eligible for the Fry Scholarship. Scholarships are available for those students who participate in band and choir. Participation is the only basis for eligibility.
Scholarships from external groups are available and students are encouraged to apply. Information is provided via e-mail as these scholarship opportunities become available.
The Nelson Family Endowed Scholarship is a scholarship opportunity that is meant to help non-traditional students achieve their goals. The assistance is especially geared toward those individuals who may be changing their paths in life or those pursuing changes in careers. A special emphasis of the scholarship is to promote the concept of volunteerism, leadership, development and out-of-classroom experiences for the scholarship recipients.

This unique scholarship program is available only to those students enrolled in dual credit high school courses offered through Mayville State.
In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must have completed at least one Mayville State Dual Credit course in high school prior to their full time enrollment at Mayville State as a Freshman in the fall semester after high school graduation. Students will earn scholarships equivalent to the cost of their Dual Credit tuition for their freshman year at Mayville State. The scholarship will not exceed the total amount of $2000.
For example! Let’s say you took English 110, English 120 and Math 103 from Mayville State as dual credit for $345.00 per class. Let’s also say you passed all those classes with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. That means if you come to Mayville State University in your freshmen year, you would get that money back as a scholarship divided over your first two semesters at MSU. So for the example of three courses at $345 per class, you would get a $1035 dual credit scholarship or all your money back!
