The Mayville State University Alumni Association is spearheading a very exciting project, Legacy Plaza, on the campus of Mayville State University. This project will provide beautiful landscaping and patios along a major thoroughfare running east and west across the campus. This is part of a renaissance that is taking place at Mayville State. With the complete renovation of historic Old Main and a major remodeling project in the MSU Campus Center, nearly half of the campus space will be “new” by the fall of 2026.
Legacy Plaza celebrates and recognizes the faithful stewardship that has protected the Mayville State University legacy of personal service and quality educational programs since the institution’s beginning in 1889. As the legacy has passed from generation to generation, the university has grown and evolved while remaining true to its roots. Located along the walkway between the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse and the Classroom Building and connecting the east side of campus with Old Main, Legacy Plaza will be a destination for gatherings, photo ops, and activities for students, employees, alumni, and the community.
While the two-year renovation of Old Main is underway, the building will be vacated and all office spaces and classrooms will be relocated to other areas of campus, and the east side of campus will become the “front door.” This makes the Legacy Plaza especially important because traffic will be increased in this area of campus. The space will continue to be highly visible and well-traveled when the Old Main project is complete, and this same walkway joins with a beautiful new entrance on the north side of Old Main.
We are extremely grateful for the alumni and friends who have already supported the Legacy Plaza project through their generous monetary gifts, and we invite you to join them with gifts to sponsor flower planters and/or trees within the plaza. A limited number of each is available. Tree sponsorships are $750, and planters are $500. All sponsorships will be recognized with appropriate signage. If you are interested in being a part of this wonderful project, please contact Beth Swenson at beth.swenson@mayvillestate.edu or 701-788-4750. Sponsorships will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The area of the future Legacy Plaza has been cleared and is ready for landscaping to begin. Crews plan to start their work on Aug. 12, with the goal to finish up in September. The completion of Legacy Plaza will be celebrated during Homecoming 2024 festivities on Friday, Sept. 27 at noon.
