Orientation sessions provide an opportunity to meet new members of the Mayville State family

Many new faces will sprinkle our campus as the fall semester approaches. About 135 new freshmen and transfer students have already registered for classes that will begin in the fall of 2015-16. These soon-to-be Comets attended registrations that have been taking place on campus during June. In addition, we will be registering a number of new students by phone during the months of July and August. We’re excited about these new members of the Mayville State family who are committed to pursuing their educational goals at Mayville State.

It is interesting to note that several students who will be new at Mayville State in the fall semester have already begun their studies. Thirty new transfer students were admitted and registered for the Summer Session of 2015. Sixteen former Mayville State students were re-admitted and began classes this summer, as well.

Each year, in preparation for the fall semester, Mayville State hosts several summer orientation and pre-registration sessions for new students. At each pre-registration event, students have the opportunity to meet other students, register for classes, and meet with their first-year advisors. Students are also trained on use of Mayville State’s computer network and receive their student identification cards.

Parents of the students are encouraged to attend the orientation and pre-registration sessions with their children. Parents learn the ropes about Mayville State University, receive information on their involvement in their child’s education, and take a campus tour. They also have the option of visiting with financial aid, academic support, counseling, and student health representatives.

As is typical, the majority of new students this year are coming from North Dakota and Minnesota, but we also have new students from a wide variety of states, provinces and foreign countries. At the end of May, 62% of all applicants were from North Dakota or Minnesota, and 34% were from other states and provinces. In addition, we have received applications from 28 students from foreign countries. We are especially pleased to know that 21 of the new freshmen who have been admitted or already registered are coming to us from May-Port CG High School! We look forward to welcoming these special members of the Mayville State family.

Final registration for the fall semester will take place Monday, August 24. Orientation for all new students is planned for August 22 to 24. The first full day of classes is August 25.

Our student life department has a full week of activities planned for all Mayville State students Saturday, August 24 through Friday, August 28, the first week of the fall semester. Welcome Week activities will include kickball and a movie at the Delchar Theater. Students will be hoping to stock their pantries during the grocery bingo games. Cru will be sponsoring its traditional Night of the Island, an evening highlighted by inflatable games and a free picnic meal, all at Mayville’s beautiful Island Park. Several other activities are still in the planning stages.

Before we know it, Mayville State’s fall sports athletes will be on campus for pre-season camps, and fall semester will be in full swing. We’re still accepting applications for admission for the fall semester.  For more information on how you can become a student at Mayville State University, contact the Office of Enrollment Services at 701-788-4842 or 1-800-437-4104, ext. 34842, or go to www.mayvillestate.edu.
