A highlight of the Feb. 2 Glitz & Glam Gala at Mayville State University will be a live auction. Several fabulous items have been donated and/or sponsored by Mayville State University supporters. These items will be sold to the highest bidder among those who attend the gala. Pifer’s will be providing the auctioneering and clerking services. The auction items include those described below, as well as a handful of others.

There will be live music and Jason Middlestead will be brewing up a special Blue Comet lager for the occasion. The world’s greatest collection of yard games will be available for playing and the swimming pool will be open. The barbecue is being donated by Jon and Betsy Ewen and sponsored by Steele Traill County Mutual Insurance Co.

Delicious appetizers and full bar service will be available under a tent located outside of Jerome Berg Field. The event includes music and games and will be put together and served by the MSU Athletic Department.

Mayville State’s celebrated artist, Doug Anderson, has painted and donated a watercolor painting that features the words of the MSU fight song surrounded by images of athletes.

Dr. Merwin Lyng and his wife, Myrna, are donating their Comet blue bicycle built for two. The bicycle will become a traveling Glitz & Glam auction item. The purchaser’s name will be inscribed on a special commemorative plate and the name of a new bid-winner will be added each year.

Shannon Bergstrom, Portland, N.D., and Brett Brudvik, Mayville, N.D., have donated a Minnesota Vikings experience. The winner of this item will be flown round-trip to Minneapolis to see the Vikings battle the Washington Redskins next season. Hotel accommodations near U.S. Bank Stadium are included, along with two fantastic seats on the guest 35-yard line. The package also includes a Visa gift card to cover meals and incidentals. To complete the package, Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops has donated a $500 gift certificate that can be used to stock the bar with the finest wine, beer, or liquor. The bar will be delivered to the front door of the lucky winner.

Those shopping for Valentine’s Day will be delighted by a seven-row diamond wedding anniversary band that features two carats of diamonds set in 10k white gold. This fabulous ring has been donated by Riddle’s Jewelry in Grand Forks, N.D.

Riddle's Presentation.jpgWith their financial support, Gate City Bank has stepped up to become the signature sponsor of the Glitz & Glam Gala, which is designed to take guests on an entertaining journey for a good cause. This year’s theme is a night in New York. It will take place in the MSU Campus Center.

The Glitz & Glam Gala will begin with a social on the streets of New York City and will include photo ops, games of chance, street food appetizers, and entertainment of all kinds. A New York-themed sit-down dinner of prime rib will be served in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. Guests will enjoy the awarding of cash door prizes, student testimonials, Park Avenue luxury bingo, and games of Brooklyn and Bronx, in addition to the auction.

The afterglow of the adventure will begin at around 8:30 p.m., when guests can snack on New York-style pizza, enjoy music, socialize with friends, and experience the unveiling of the location for Glitz & Glam 2020. DJ Lute Simley will provide music and guests may choose to visit and enjoy the music or dance the night away.

Tickets for the Glitz & Glam Gala sell for $75 each. Ticket price includes dinner and bingo playing cards, and the purchaser’s name will be entered into drawings for cash and prizes. All proceeds from this event will benefit Comet Athletics, the MSU Alumni Association, and the MSU Foundation, assisting these groups as they work to support Mayville State University and its students.
