The MSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) introduced Mayville State’s new mascot named Astro Comet, or A.C. for short, at the Nov. 20 home men’s basketball game. The astronaut goes hand-in-hand with the school’s athletics nickname, the Comets. Just as a Comet appears with glorious light when it passes near the sun, Astro Comet will appear at Mayville State’s athletic contests to fire up the fans and provide a fun atmosphere for spectators and athletes alike.

The Mayville State SAAC was re-energized a few years ago under the leadership of MSU Athletic Director Ryan Hall. Among the purposes of the group, which is made up of student-athletes representing the various Comets varsity athletic teams, is to promote school spirit and provide outreach to the community.

“I couldn’t be more excited for A.C. to join Comet Nation and fire up the fans for Comet Athletics contests,” said Ryan Hall. “Led by president Sadie Matthews and vice president Trent Carlson, our SAAC continues to impress. They recognized the importance of having a mascot for our fans who bleed blue, someone who can interact with our younger Comet fans as well. Hopefully COVID-19 spectator guidelines loosen up in the future so everyone can get to a home game and enjoy the presence of A.C. as well as the game! It’s a great day to be a Comet!”

Mayville State’s SAAC has won the North Star Athletic Association BOSA (Board of Student-Athletes) Cup the last two years. The NSAA, of which Mayville State is a member, implemented the NSAA BOSA Cup in 2018. The BOSA Cup is an award granted to the NSAA member institution with the highest number of BOSA Cup points, which can be earned through several different areas of BOSA and campus involvement. Some of the main areas in which points can be gained include campus SAAC meetings, SAAC community service events, SAAC campus engagement events, campus team community service, involvement in NSAA BOSA initiatives, and NSAA BOSA representative participating in conference calls. Other areas involve participation in supporting a national foundation, or event conversation about the NAIA legislation and updates. of Student-Athletes (BOSA) is excited to announce the implementation of the first-ever NSAA
