Mayville State's Extended Learning programs combine the flexibility of online and distance programs with the student-focused instruction of its on-campus programs. Distance class sizes are small, often less than 20 students per class section, so students can receive personal attention from experienced instructors. The majority of Mayville State’s distance class instructors are full-time, on-campus instructors. This means students receive quality instruction from experienced university instructors. Online degree-seekers receive personal attention from experienced academic advisors, have access to online tutoring services, writing center services, online library materials, career resource services, and more. Federal financial aid and limited scholarships are also available to degree-seeking students.

Mayville State distance students may enroll as non-degree-seekers or pursue degree programs in business administration; early childhood; mathematics; university studies; special education; and elementary, early childhood, and mathematics education. An online RN-to-BSN program is designed with the flexibility to accommodate working RNs who want to become nurses at the baccalaureate level.

A recently approved Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed to assist persons with non-teaching bachelor’s degrees to apply for teacher certification in a secondary content area while obtaining a master’s degree. The goal of Mayville State’s MAT program is to add qualified teachers to the workforce. The North Dakota Department of Commerce has acknowledged pre-school, elementary school, middle school, and secondary teacher shortages across the state. The MAT online program provides an opportunity for those holding bachelor’s degrees to obtain professional teaching degrees while maintaining employment.

Mayville State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). An institution of the North Dakota University system, MSU is one of North Dakota's original colleges, established as part of the state constitution in 1889. For more than a century, Mayville State has been training teachers and other professionals while maintaining the highest standards.
