Mayville State University will begin a new archery program for student athletes beginning in the fall of 2025. The new athletic program will include opportunities for all students.

The search for a coach is underway, with the goal of naming a coach by early November so student recruitment can get underway.

Archery will be a year-around sport at Mayville State University, with main competitions being held in the winter and spring. Many of the meets will be virtual.

“Many local high schools have archery as a sport,” said Mayville State University President Dr. Brian Van Horn. “We believe that we can recruit it as an intercollegiate sport at Mayville State. The growth of archery in America has been exponential. This program should appeal to students who are looking to pursue their higher education goals at a small rural campus. One of the great aspects of archery is that it’s a sport where really anyone can compete with hard work and dedication.”

Mayville State archery practice and competition will take place at Norsemen Hall in Portland, N.D.

“We thank the leadership of Norsemen Hall for their willingness to host our team,” said Van Horn. “We’re fortunate to have such a wonderful facility that makes this opportunity possible right here in Mayville-Portland.”
