Over the summer months, Mayville State University employees have participated in an initiative called “Walk on Wednesday.” Encouraged by the Staff Senate and human resources officer Sarah Gasevic, employees walk on one of two routes – a half-mile or a full mile – during the noon hour on Wednesdays.

The initiative was born out of the Get Moving Month Walk @ Work Day held on May 31. The event was sponsored by North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System, Sanford Health Plan, and Governor Doug Burgum, and all state agencies were invited to participate with the goal of showing people how easy it is to move more throughout the work day.

Mayville State had the most participants of all state agencies in the May 31 event and the Mayville State walkers were treated to fresh fruit, compliments of the sponsors. Many of the Mayville State participants also won T-shirts which were given to the first 300 participants statewide to sign up.

The great response to the initial Walk @ Work Day event prompted Mayville State folks to continue a walking event throughout the summer. Admissions recruiter and running enthusiast Rick Karboviak has led the charge.
