An anonymous Mayville State University donor has come forward and is issuing a challenge to all Mayville State alumni and friends. The donor will match dollar-for-dollar all gifts made to fall 2020 football scholarships, up to a total of $20,000. Gifts must be received in the MSU Foundation by January 31, 2020. All funds received will help the football staff as they work to recruit and retain quality student-athletes for the MSU Comets football team. Funding will be used for scholarships awarded in the fall of 2020.
Comets offensive coordinator Micah Smith has recently been named the interim head coach, as the search for a new head football coach is underway at Mayville State University. The previous head coach has left Mayville to become the defensive coordinator at his alma mater.
Mayville State administration is committed to keeping the football program a priority, with the goal of having a winning program. This generous donation and gift challenge came out of discussions regarding the challenges facing the Mayville State football staff as they work to build their team. Scholarship funding has been identified as the greatest need in this regard.
“This influx of funding will have a big impact in our efforts to recruit local and regional talent with good character,” said Mayville State Athletic Director Ryan Hall. “We sincerely appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the anonymous donor who has issued this challenge.”
