An anonymous Mayville State University donor has come forward for a third time and is issuing a challenge to all Mayville State alumni and friends. The donor will match dollar-for-dollar all gifts made to Comet Football, up to a total of $20,000. Gifts must be received in the MSU Foundation by Nov. 13, 2021. All funds received will help the football staff as they work to recruit and retain quality student-athletes for the MSU Comets football team.

This marks the second season with head coach Rocky Larson at the helm for Mayville State. He was hired for the position on Feb. 1, 2020 and his first day on the job was Feb. 4, 2020. There were 36 kids on the roster when he arrived. Since then, he’s assembled a staff and they have worked extremely hard to build a team. They started the current season with a roster of more than 120 players. This was no easy feat in normal times, and especially in the heat of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This influx of funding will have a big impact in our efforts to recruit local and regional talent with good character and to build on the momentum that Coach Larson and his staff have started,” said MSU Foundation Executive Director Lon Jorgensen. “We sincerely appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the anonymous donor who has issued this challenge for a third time.”
