Mayville State is collaborating with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) and the U.S. Department of Labor as the recipient of a Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers (RAP-T) grant. Mayville State has recently been awarded $100,000 in grant funding. This is the second award since January of 2024. The goal is to be a part of the teacher shortage solution and provide effective teachers for the North Dakota workforce.
The grant will cover all education expenses for paraprofessionals who meet specific criteria, including a desire to earn an education degree focusing on elementary education and teacher licensure within the state. These paraprofessionals will be selected in partnership with North Dakota public schools.
The RAP-T grant reinforces Mayville State University’s commitment to excellence in education. It also supports the grant's purpose by equipping paraprofessionals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to become effective educators for North Dakota learners. This initiative shows potential in tackling the pressing teacher shortage in the state.
Dr. Kelli Odden, Professor of Education and Dean and Chair of the Division of Education at Mayville State University expressed pride in the university’s involvement with these essential efforts.
“We look forward to partnering with North Dakota public schools to meet the programming needs and support our K-12 learners,” said Dr. Odden. “The Mayville State Division of Education is ecstatic to have the opportunity to continue partnering with North Dakota school districts to cultivate a passionate and effective teacher workforce.”
