Increased enrollment is good for the university and the community

As part of our continued efforts to provide prospective students the personal service they deserve, we’ve launched “Mayville State Mania” during the month of March. If you know of a high school senior who is still on the fence about where to go to college in fall, or if you know of someone who is looking to complete their degree or enhance their skills to better their career, this is a great time for you to invite them to check out Mayville State.

Mayville State offers more than 77 majors, minors, and pre-professional programs. With this great variety of opportunities, we’ve got the affordable, quality academic plans of study that will help students achieve their goals and kick start their careers. In addition, our wonderful physical campus improvements over the past several years have made for a safe and comfortable environment in which to learn and grow.

As part of “Mayville State Mania,” we’re waiving the $35 application fee for the entire month of March. In addition, a number of other incentives are being offered this month. Those who take a campus tour, either in person on campus or virtually, will receive a $250 housing credit for the Fall Semester of 2017 and a $100 textbook bundle credit from the MSU Bookstore for the Fall Semester of 2017. To top it off, all who visit during the month of March will be entered into a drawing for MSU’s Golden Ticket – 50% off tuition for the Fall Semester of 2017. In addition to these great offers, there will be lots of giveaways and weekly drawings. (Disclaimers apply to each of these offers.)

Through the efforts of our admissions and alumni staff, we’re enlisting the help of our alumni and friends in the “Recruit a Comet” effort. We’re asking alumni to share their Mayville State experiences with others who might benefit from a Mayville State education. There’s no better spokesperson for the Mayville State experience than someone who has lived it.

Director of Admissions Jim Morowski has put together a “Recruit a Comet” toolbox that contains a Mayville State table cover, a few giveaways, and general informational publications that will let prospective students know the basics about what makes Mayville State special. Jim is encouraging alumni to set up tables at the schools near where they live and to be there to visit with students and answer any questions they may have at Mayville State. If you’re interested in doing this, you should contact Jim at 701-788-4619 or james.morowski@mayvillestate.edu. He’s got toolboxes ready to mail out to all who are interested.

Our staff and faculty are giving an all-out effort to increase enrollment for the fall semester. Coaches are busy talking with prospective players, their coaches, and families. On-campus and virtual tours are being conducted. In addition to the “Mayville State Mania” and “Recruit a Comet” campaigns geared at bringing new students to campus, we’re pulling out all the stops and going above and beyond to make sure our students are happy and successful, and will choose to return to MSU in the fall.

Along those lines, last week, our Staff Senate organized a food drive that would result in care packages to be distributed to students who would be on campus or in town during spring break this week. Students will need these food items this week, since the cafeteria is closed. Faculty and staff responded to the request for donations in a big way. Thirty-five care packages were prepared, and a mid-week snack boost was planned, another example of personal service at its best.

Increasing enrollment is the most positive way in which we can address state budget shortfalls that are affecting state agencies. I’m very proud of our faculty and staff for stepping up and taking on the challenge to do more. We offer great opportunities for people looking to brighten their futures and we look forward to having these individuals enroll at Mayville State. Thank you to all alumni and community members who are helping us to share the Mayville State story. With your help, the Mayville State family is growing, which results in not only a stronger Mayville State University, but a more vibrant community.
