A passion for science, service, and helping others has guided Mollie Robbins, LaMoure, N.D., in her academic and professional journey. Concentrating primarily on health science, Robbins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Mayville State University in December of 2025, and she is already making a difference in her community while preparing for the next step in her education.

At Mayville State, Robbins built a strong academic foundation through coursework focused on the biological and health sciences. Her studies included classes in parasitology, genetics, evolution, physics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and research methodology. She also embraced opportunities to broaden her education beyond the sciences by enrolling in psychology, music, and coaching courses.

The ability for students to explore disciplines beyond one’s major is one of Mayville State’s strengths,” Robbins said. “I took full advantage of that flexibility to develop a well-rounded academic foundation.”

Robbins credits the faculty at Mayville State for playing a significant role in her success. She said the personalized attention and supportive environment helped her grow both academically and personally.

“I attribute much of my success at Mayville State to the exceptional faculty within the science department,” she said. “My advisor, Dr. Joseph Mehus, along with many other professors, consistently challenged and supported me throughout my academic journey. The department is composed of a diverse group of educators, each offering a unique perspective and teaching style.”

She also appreciated the close-knit campus atmosphere that characterizes the Mayville State experience and sets the university apart.

“It’s rare to attend a university where nearly every professor knows your name and greets you when they see you,” Robbins said. “That level of connection made my experience at Mayville both memorable and impactful.”

Outside the classroom, Robbins immersed herself in a variety of activities that enhanced her educational experience. She was a member of the Mayville State women’s basketball team and participated in the university’s concert band, developing valuable skills in teamwork, discipline, and time management.

The opportunity to be an undergraduate researcher was an experience that greatly influenced Mollie. During her final two years at Mayville State, Robbins worked in the Mayville State mosquito research lab under the direction of Dr. Mehus. Conducting this research strengthened her analytical abilities and deepened her interest in the scientific process.

“This experience allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scientific inquiry,” she said.

Since graduating, Robbins has returned to her hometown area, where she began her professional career as a Social Service Designee and Director of Wellness and Activities at St. Rose-Benedictine Care Center in LaMoure. In that role, she works closely with residents and healthcare professionals, applying her background in the biological and health sciences while gaining valuable experience in patient care, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This coming fall, Robbins will continue her educational journey in pursuit of a doctorate degree in physical therapy. Her long-term goal is to return to a rural community and establish her own physical therapy practice, helping address the growing need for accessible healthcare services across North Dakota.

“I am committed to improving the quality of care available in underserved areas and contributing to the overall health and well-being of the communities that shaped me,” Robbins said.

As she prepares for the next chapter of her career, Robbins exemplifies Mayville State University’s commitment to preparing graduates for meaningful careers and lives of service. Through academic excellence, hands-on research, and engagement both inside and outside the classroom, she has developed the knowledge, skills, and determination to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of rural communities.
