Jay DeCann has been named interim head softball coach at Mayville State University. He will serve in the position for the 2022-23 season. A search will be conducted, with the goal of making a hire in the spring of 2023.
Coach DeCann was head softball coach at Minot (N.D.) State University from 1996 to 1998. His overall record was 57-40, with a .539 winning percentage, and he led his teams to 29 wins and 19 losses in the conference.
DeCann is a 1991 Mayville State University graduate and will begin his tenure as Mayville State’s athletic director on July 1. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a major in health and physical education and a minor in coaching. He also earned a Master of Science in Education degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
