Mayville State University’s 126th commencement was held Saturday afternoon, May 12. Nearly 200 individuals who had completed the requirements for their degrees at the end of the fall semester of 2017 or the spring semester of 2018 were recognized, as were several individuals who will complete their degree requirements at the end of the summer session of 2018 or the fall semester of 2018.
Dr. Mark Hagerott, North Dakota University System Chancellor, delivered the keynote address. Speakers representing the graduates were Nicole Schleske, Fergus Falls, Minn., and Donte Stevens, Opa-Locka. Fla. Pastor Scott Sheets of Riverside Evangelical Free Church, Mayville, delivered the invocation and benediction.
Leading the faculty and graduates in the procession were emeritus faculty members Dr. Merwin Lyng, Dr. Ron Semmens, Dr. Carol Enger, Dr. Ray Gerszewski, Dr. Paul Batesel, Dr. Mike Worner, Dr. Nannette Bagstad, Dr. Martin Johnson, and Dr. Rick Holman.
Graduation day festivities began with the traditional graduation brunch, hosted by the MSU Alumni Association and sponsored by Gate City Bank. The event serves as the first official alumni activity for the new graduates and was attended by the graduates, along with their family members and friends. About 260 attended the brunch, and thanks to the generous sponsorship of Gate City Bank, the brunch was complimentary for all who attended. Student speakers at the brunch were Emmalee Hall, Pembina, N.D., and Douglas Koepplin, Elgin, N.D.
