Collette Christoffers, associate professor and interim chair of the Division of Nursing at Mayville State University, has been recognized for her ongoing achievements and contributions in nursing practice. Collette was recognized with the Chapter Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award during the Xi-Kappa-at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau’s induction ceremony held March 27, 2021.
This award recognizes superior achievement of developing nurse leaders who demonstrate a high level of professionalism and dedication to nursing practice (including research and education), and who foster effective communication.
Sigma Theta Tau International has been recognizing and celebrating excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service within nursing and midwifery for more than 90 years. Sigma was founded in 1922 by six nursing students and has grown to more than 135,000 active members in 540+ chapters in 100+ countries.
The Xi-Kappa-at-Large chapter began in 1993. Mayville State University joined the chapter in 2019 with other members schools, Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.), North Dakota State University (Fargo and Bismarck, N.D.), Minnesota State University (Moorhead, Minn.), and University of Jamestown (Jamestown, N.D.).
The Xi-Kappa at-Large Chapter strives to promote the mission of Sigma Theta Tau by holding educational programs, promoting service projects, promoting participation of members within the Biennial Sigma Theta Tau International Conference every two years, and by providing focused nursing awards of excellence and scholarship. The Chapter received the Chapter Key Award in 2019 for excelling in chapter-related activities such as membership recruitment and retention, publicity and programming, professional and leadership development, and collaboration.
Collette Christoffers currently serves as president of the Xi-Kappa-at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. Lindsay Bontjes, assistant professor of nursing at Mayville State University, serves as the school’s counselor.
