alumni_day.jpgThe Mayville State University Alumni Association’s seventh annual Alumni Day festivities are planned for Friday, June 23. The events are being held in conjunction with Mayville-Portland’s Summerfest. The MayPort Community Club members are organizing and coordinating Summerfest activities to be held June 22, 23, 24, and 25.

A guided campus tour will begin from the front of Old Main at 2 p.m. This will be an opportunity to see the many facility improvements that have been made on the Mayville State campus over the last several years, including the recently completed Health, Physical Education, and Recreation expansion and renovation project.

An ice cream social will be held on the lawn at the Edson and Margaret Alumni and Leadership Center from 2 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to see the latest enhancements at the Military Honor Garden, located on the grounds south of the Larson Center while enjoying ice cream that will be provided compliments of the MSU Alumni Association. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Also from 2 to 3 p.m., there will be an open house at Birkelo Hall. Updates are underway, and you’re invited to stop by and see how Mayville State is transforming the residence hall for use as a living and learning community for high-achieving students.

A reception to honor the 2017 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service Award recipients will be held at the Larson Center from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and visit with this year’s honorees. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be Richard Balstad (’63) and Don Cavalier (’65). Mike Bakken will receive the Distinguished Service Award, and Jeff Braaten will be honored posthumously with the Distinguished Service Award.

These honorees will receive their awards at the annual Alumni Association Awards Dinner, which will be held in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 each and can be purchased at or by calling the MSU Foundation, 701-788-4864. RSVP deadline is Monday, June 5.

An all-alumni and friends social at the Mayville Golf Club will round out the day’s activities, from 8 p.m. until midnight.

A special invitation is extended to Mayville State’s class of 1977 and their friends. This year marks the 40th anniversary of their graduation from Mayville State. The group will gather at the Mayville Golf Club from 8 p.m. until midnight on June 23. More information about the class of 1977 and friends reunion is available at
