Mayville State graduate, Jeff Granrud, named National Rural Teacher of the Year

Jeff Granrud, 1996 Mayville State University graduate and Mayville, N.D. native, has been named the National Rural Teacher of the Year by the National Rural Education Association (NREA) and the NREA Foundation. The program honors the very best in rural education across the country. Nominations for any teacher in a rural community in the United States are accepted.

Grateful for generous support as we celebrate our roots and honor our agricultural way of life

It’s nearly time for alumni and friends to gather and celebrate Mayville State University and what it means in our lives. For the third year in a row, Homecoming will meet Farmers Bowl for a combined event where we’ll recognize our roots as Comets while honoring the agricultural way of life in our area. Festivities are planned for the weekend of Sept. 26-27. The schedule of events and all the details are at www.mayvillestate.edu/Homecoming2025.

Several to be recognized during Mayville State Homecoming/Farmers Bowl festivities

The Mayville State University Alumni Association board has a full slate of activities planned for the university’s combined Homecoming/Farmers Bowl celebration the weekend of Sept. 26 and 27, 2025. The busy schedule will begin with tours of Old Main, the campus flagship building which is undergoing a major transformation and renovation. Weekend highlights will include the Homecoming Awards Dinner, where several alumni and friends will be recognized.

Mayville State faculty and students impact society through research and STEM-related careers

The North Dakota Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (ND EPSCoR) announced in August that its partnering institutions had been approved for a National Science Foundation (NSF) E-CORE award for their Sustainable Programs Advancing Research and Knowledge across North Dakota (SPARK-ND) proposal. This is the first such grant awarded in North Dakota, thus the first for Mayville State as well. The National Science Foundation has awarded the total project an anticipated amount of $7,963,804 over four years.

Admission tickets for the Farmers Bowl Auction available now

The much-loved Mayville State University Farmers Bowl Auction will be the grand finale for the combined Homecoming/Farmers Bowl festivities planned for Sept. 26 and 27. The auction promises to be a great time for all and includes the chance to win great prizes and the opportunity to purchase some wonderful auction items that have been donated by numerous local and regional businesses, alumni, and friends. All proceeds of the auction will be disbursed through the MSU Foundation for the benefit of Mayville State University and its students.

Blessings are all around us!

Late in the afternoon on Friday, Aug. 29, I received the phone call no administrator or family member ever wants to receive. This is when I learned that Mayville State’s men’s and women’s golf teams were involved in a vehicle crash on I-94 east of Bismarck at about 5:45 p.m. The teams were traveling in two vehicles and were on their way back to campus from a meet in Bismarck. Six student athletes and a member of the staff were in the one vehicle that was involved in the crash.
