The Mayville State University Student Education Association (SEA) recently completed a heartwarming literacy initiative in partnership with the Mayville State Child Development Programs (CDP), bringing the joy of reading and kindness to the youngest learners in our community.

Using SEA funds, the group selected and purchased age-appropriate kindness-themed books for every child enrolled in the infant/toddler, two- and three-year-old, and preschool classrooms at the CDP. Each teacher also received a copy to share during classroom activities. In total, 58 books were distributed, 52 for children and six for teachers, ensuring that kindness and literacy go hand in hand.

To make the experience extra special, SEA members packed the books in colorful tote bags, complete with a gift tag and helpful literature outlining age-appropriate literacy activities for families. On Nov. 19, SEA members delivered the totes to excited children and teachers, initiating smiles all around.

Mayville State SEA members who were involved in the project are Macy Majer, Madison Heller, Grace Wangler, Hannah Pilon, Hannah Dahl, Samantha Berger, and Eve Galster. The group is advised by Professor of Education, Dr. Ann Willeson.

The efforts of the SEA highlight the power of collaboration and the impact of small acts of kindness. By combining literacy with social-emotional learning, Mayville State students are making a difference that will extend well beyond the classroom.
