Todd Bergeron attended Oklee (Minn.) High School, graduating in 1987. In high school, he was involved in football and wrestling. He wrestled under the guidance of hall of fame coaches Charlie Bishop and Gary Brantl (1970 Mayville State graduate). Todd was a football team captain in his senior year, when he was also selected as all-conference.
As a wrestler, Todd was a four-time state entrant. In 1985, he went out in the consolation semifinals (what used to be called the “blood round” because the MSHSL only placed four per weight class in both A and AA). In 1986, Todd was the 98 lb. Class A state champion, and in 1987, he was crowned the 105 lb. Class A state champion. Todd’s high school record was 135-19-1. He was undefeated in both his junior and senior seasons.
Bergeron attended the University of North Dakota for a year, then transferred to Mayville State, where he was a two-time NAIA national qualifier. His collegiate record was 86-39. He was the team captain for two years and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an elementary education major and a coaching minor.
Todd was an assistant coach in Thief River Falls, Minn. for a year, then taught at Cathedral in Crookston, Minn. for two years, where he was an assistant for hall of fame coach Rodd Olson. He then moved to Pahrump, Nev., where he taught, officiated, and coached for seven years. He returned to Minnesota and began coaching at Badger-Greenbush Middle River High School from 2003 to 2019. His coaching record was 240-78. His teams won the Section 8 title in 2005 (6th), 2012 (4th), and 2019. Todd was selected as Section Coach of the Year in three years. His teams were also Section 8 runners-up in 11 years. Todd coached 87 state entrants, 34 medalists, and six state champs.
Todd continues to teach in Greenbush, where he resides with his wife, Melinda. They are the parents of three adult children, Ryan, Bailey, and Bryce.
