Wednesday, Aug. 21 was a big day at Mayville State University, as it marked the official beginning of the new school year. As is the tradition at Mayville State, faculty are on campus a few days ahead of the start of classes for an orientation of sorts for the new year. It’s always exciting to welcome new faculty and staff, as well as those who are returning.
First State Bank - Portland, Mayville, Grand Forks, Thompson, and Buxton; AgCountry Farm Credit, Grand Forks, N.D.; Moore Engineering, West Fargo; Northern Feed & Bean - Larry and Kathy Lande, Lucerne, Colo.; Steele Traill County Mutual Insurance; and Citizens State Bank - Finley, Northwood, and Cooperstown, have stepped up to sponsor Mayville State’s Farmers Bowl 2019. The annual Farmers Bowl festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14.
The public is invited to attend a presentation on the disease of addiction by Dr. Henke from the Heartview Foundation in Bismarck, N.D. The presentation, “Opioids. Addiction. Overdose. What You Need To Know” will be given at the Campus Center Luckasen Room at Mayville State University Wednesday, Aug. 28, beginning at 6 p.m.
Community members are invited to meet the 2019-2020 Mayville State Comet student athletes at a meet and greet social planned for Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Mayville’s Island Park. The Comets will be available for handshakes and photo ops between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
A great selection of auction items that appeal to young and old, men and women, and people with all kinds of interests is being collected for the Sept. 14 Mayville State University Farmers Bowl silent auction. Among the items that will be sold are a hand-crafted Comets quilt, toys for girls and boys, jewelry, wine, hockey tickets, original artwork, home décor, a Comets bench, a Dynaglo smoker, and more! There will be something for everyone.
The fall semester will be here soon! Classes will begin at 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26. The first full day of classes is Tuesday, Aug. 27. Students are beginning to arrive on campus as pre-season camps for the football and volleyball teams began last week. These are exciting times!
