Getting Started

This document will help developers hit the ground running with developing online courses.

Planning Form

The purpose of this required form is to strategically plan for the development, scheduling and marketing of online courses. Both developer and Chair must sign.

Agreement

This required form is used to ensure that all parties are aware of the development or re-development of an online course and helps the developer and instructional designer determine the timeframe involved. Must be signed by Chair, Developer, Instructional Designer, Director of Extended Learning and VPAA.

Approved Course Development Rubric 

This form is used by two reviewers – the content reviewer  and the instructional design reviewer. Typically the content reviewer will be a member of your division. The items in this form that are highlighted in yellow are those that will be considered by the content review. Everything will be evaluated by the instructional designer. 

MSU Syllabus Template-August 2014

The syllabus template is a guide for the development of all syllabi. Some items are required for all courses, some are only required for online courses. Please download and use as a template or a reference when building your syllabi. 

Review Confirmation Form

This form is used to signify the end of the review process and trigger the payment process.

Technology Integration Matrix

This matrix gives specific examples of how to incorporate technology tools into your online teaching. It starts out naming a traditional instructional method, and then defines activities and the technologies that can be used to make them happen online. If you have something to add, please feel free to let us know!

Points to Remember

Just like face-to-face classes, online instruction requires a variety of instructional and assessment strategies. So here are a few pointers to get the creative juices flowing and please feel free to ask the Instructional Technology department for support.
