Here's why Mayville State is right for Antar!

Why did you choose to attend Mayville State University?
Honestly Mayville State chose me. I had dropped out of school for a year and was looking to get my education. My mentor pointed me in the direction of Mayville State to play basketball and to finish my education. I called and talked to MSU assistant men’s basketball coach Bryan Pyles, who happened to know my mentor, Jarvis Mitchell, personally, and told him my situation. He told me that they had no scholarship money for me, but they had a spot and I could finish my education. Mayville State didn’t need me, but I can truly say I needed Mayville State. They gave me a second chance.

What do you like best about the major you’re pursuing?
My professors definitely are what I like best. They allow my personality to thrive, and they enhance that so much. They reflect a little more of my style of learning in the hands-on, outgoing type of environment.

What do you like best about Mayville State in general?
I enjoy the atmosphere and the sense of community. The people here, from the dean to the janitors, are just absolutely the friendliest people I have met in my life. They help me remember that there are still decent people in this world.

Do you participate in any activities related to your major/minor? Internships? Work Study? Other?
Last semester I had the opportunity to visit the local elementary school to observe a physical education class.

What MSU clubs, organizations, or athletic activities to you participate in?
Varsity Basketball

How have these activities enhanced your college experience?
Coach Dewitt has really taught me to value the details, the small details of my life and my habits. I can say I have grown up a lot since transferring here in January. I’ve learned that there is more to my life than basketball.

What has been your greatest moment as a Mayville State student?
One of my greatest moments here a Mayville state was learning how to ski. My MSU instructor, Becky Gunderson, got me to step outside my comfort Zone and do something I have truly never thought about doing. A lot of people from where I am from can’t say that they have gotten to ski.

What does personal service mean to you?
Personal service to me means giving yourself to your team or community. Your personally get rid of selfishness and look to help others instead of serving yourself. My coach preaches a lot of serving others and, being human, as hard as it is, I try my best every day you be of service to someone else in any way, shape, or form.

What are your plans after graduating from Mayville State?
My plans after graduating are to continue my passion for helping children. I plan to give back to the community through sports and working as a child development coach. I hope to start my own training or help center for children. My ultimate goal is to save a life, save a kid from making the same mistakes that I did. I will continue to serve others as I find my true purpose in the world.
