Opportunities to gather with your Mayville State friends planned

There will be opportunities for Mayville State University alumni and friends to gather in warm, sunny places during the next several months. We know that the atmosphere at these gatherings will warm the heart and nourish the soul. It’s always good to re-connect with Mayville State friends, as it is to make new friends.

MSU Foundation Executive Director John Klocke and his wife, Jan, will host the third annual Mayville State University alumni and friends luncheon in Florida. The gathering is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. It will be held at the Belle Glade Restaurant, 224 Moyer Loop, The Villages, Fla. Socializing will begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Adonica Schultz Aune (’68) and her husband, Bob (’72), will host a social at their home following the luncheon. Cost of the luncheon is $20.00 per person. To register, you may send a check, made payable to the MSU Foundation, to the MSU Foundation, 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, N.D. 58257 or you may pay online at www.mayvillestate.edu/florida.

The annual Traill County/Mayville State University luncheon in Mesa, Ariz. will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016. The luncheon will be held in the Apache Hall of the Apache Wells Country Club, 5601 E Hermosa Vista Drive, Mesa. Socializing will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch will be served at 12 noon. Socializing will continue at the country club after the luncheon. All current and former Traill County area residents and Mayville State University alumni and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Joe Dunn, Mayville State graduate and distinguished alum, Bemidji, Minn., is coordinating the luncheon again this year, with the help of Shirley Gummer, former Traill County resident and Mayville State alum, Mandan, N.D. In the spirit of helping to facilitate this annual event, which is a decades-old tradition, the staff of the MSU Foundation will also be assisting with arrangements.

Cost of the luncheon is $20.00 per person. Reservations are required and must be pre-paid by Jan. 26, 2016. Make checks payable to MSU Foundation and send to the Foundation offices at 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, ND  58257. Luncheon reservations may also be pre-paid online at www.mayvillestate.edu/arizona.

We’re also making plans for a visit to California during the first part of 2016. Details are yet to be determined. A trip to Arizona in March, when the Comets softball and baseball teams are playing there during spring break, is also under consideration. Watch our website, www.mayvillestate.edu, to see the latest information and plans.

Please mark your calendars and plan to join in the festivities at any or all of these special opportunities for Mayville State alumni and friends. You’re sure to enjoy yourself, and if you’re a year-round North Dakota resident, the opportunity to get out of the cold of winter for a short break will be a bonus!

On a related topic, we’ve decided to move forward on a second tour departure for Norway in 2016. As you may recall, we announced a couple of weeks ago that the response to the MSU Foundation and Alumni Association-sponsored Norway trip planned for July 25-Aug. 4, 2016 was overwhelming. The first tour group filled up almost immediately. Tour B will feature many of the same highlights as Tour A and will converge at select locations with Tour A participants. My wife, Debbie, and I look forward to hosting tour A, while MSU Foundation Executive Director John Klocke and his wife, Jan, will host Tour B. The Norway trip is open to all Mayville State alumni and friends. Consider giving the gift of travel this holiday season.

If you’re interested in joining Tour B, it is important that you get registered as soon as possible. Interest is high and space is limited. Seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Go to www.mayvillestate.edu/NorwayTourB to see the details, including the itinerary and registration information. Questions may be directed to Brekke Tours and Travel of Grand Forks at 1-800-437-5302 or tours@brekketours.com, or to the MSU Office of Alumni Affairs at 701-788-4750 or alumni.mail@mayvillestate.edu.
