Mayville State University Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Joseph Mehus and his team of student mosquito researchers will lead a series of sessions on topics of science and nature at the Mayville Public Library this summer.  Kids are invited to join in discussions about food chains and food webs. There will be an adventure, including a book reading, every-other week, June 3 through July 29. The Mayville Public Library is located at 52 Center Ave. N, Mayville.

Topics are as follows:

  •  June 3, 1 p.m.
    Praying Mantises. Participate in construction of praying mantis hatch kit and wingless fruit flies for them to eat. Watch throughout summer! All kids in attendance can register to win praying mantis figurines. The drawing will be held after the event.
  • June 17, 1 p.m.
    Tadpoles to Frogs and Toads. Come look at living leopard frog tadpoles close up! Register to win frog development figurines. The drawing will be held after the event.
  • July 1, 1 p.m.
    Ladybird Beetles. Help us set up the ladybug land, introduce ladybug larvae and watch them grow during summer! All kids in attendance can register to win figurines of ladybug development. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the event.
  • July 15, 1 p.m.
    Painted Lady Butterflies. Help us set up the painted lady butterfly habitat! See the caterpillars and watch them grow during summer! All kids in attendance can register to win lifecycle of painted lady butterfly figurines. The drawing will be held after the event.
  •  July 29, 1 p.m.
    Pea Planting/Germination. Join us to plant and grow your own pea plants that you can enjoy for the rest of summer! All in attendance can set up a “pea germination” experiment to see what happens underground.
