Mayville State University’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program has been recognized as a top pick in  Teacher.Org’s 2019-2020 Best Value Teacher Prep Master’s Programs list. The organization combed through hundreds of schools around the nation and hand-picked master’s degree programs to be included on the list.

Mayville State’s entirely online class format for the MAT program offers both flexibility and affordability. The standards-based curriculum supports licensure for North Dakota secondary content area certification, and a teaching mentorship clinical experience offers classroom experience to candidates prior to seeking licensure.

Teacher education has been a focus for Mayville State since the school was established as a normal school in 1889. A significant shortage of teachers in North Dakota in recent years has spurred the university to amp up efforts to prepare skilled educators who are prepared for all the challenges involved in teaching today.

A small classroom experience, which allows instructors to offer personal attention to every student, is the norm at Mayville State University. Teacher candidates are involved in current research, giving them the opportunity to present findings at local conferences and at events held around the country. Mayville State’s emphasis on evidence-based practice and lifelong learning helps graduates stay current in a field that is always changing.
