Mayville State University has been ranked one of today’s best schools for online nursing degree programs by EduMed.org. MSU’s online nursing program earned top honors for overall quality, affordability, and commitment to student success. Mayville State’s RN-to-BSN nursing program and the online nursing program overall are listed among the most affordable.

EduMed.org’s rankings feature the programs giving future nurses and allied health professionals the best chance for success from the classroom to on the job. Affordability is a key component in determining the rankings, as are the availability of resources such as academic counseling, career placement services, and other resources and support that help students graduate and get hired.

The demand for trained healthcare professionals is on the rise. According to Mercer, a global consulting leader in healthcare, the U.S. will see millions of vacancies in critical healthcare positions by 2025. Nurse practitioner, nursing assistant and home health aide roles stand to experience some of the greatest shortages over the next three years and beyond.

Making higher education more accessible is an answer to the demand for nursing professionals. Mayville State’s RN-to-BSN and MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) online nursing programs are designed to assist current full time practicing registered nurses in pursuing higher education while maintaining their employment and providing support to their families. Because the demand for nurses is so great, the need to retain nurses in the healthcare setting is critical. By offering online courses, each in five-week blocks, registered nurses are able to meet their educational goals one to two classes at a time while continuing to contribute to the healthcare workforce.

In determining the rankings, EduMed.org researched and analyzed more than 7,700 accredited schools using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and from the schools themselves. The website’s data science team then applied a proprietary algorithm to rank all qualifying schools for each healthcare discipline. To be eligible, a school must hold active regional accreditation and have at least one partially online program in the ranking subject. Just six percent of U.S. postsecondary institutions earned a ranking position.

RN-to-BSN applications are currently being accepted for the January 2024 cohort and August 2024 cohort. MSN applications for the Nurse Educator track, Nursing Leadership and Management track, and Health Informatics track are currently being accepted for the August 2024 cohort. Undergraduate nursing students have the opportunity to apply for nursing scholarships. Students in the MSN Nurse Educator track can apply for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP).
