The coronavirus pandemic prompted some major changes for the annual Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle. In consideration of the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, the CAC board elected to forego an in-person raffle event and broadcast the drawings in the 50-gun giveaway live on Facebook. In spite of some technical difficulties, the 14th annual Sportsmen’s Raffle will go on the books as a big success.

Fifty guns were given away to individuals who had purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win. Ticket sales were limited to 500, so participants had a 1-in-10 chance of winning. A list of gun winners can be found at www.mayvillestate.edu/sportsmensraffle.

“We are grateful to the many people who purchased raffle tickets and to our board members and others who got out and sold them,” said Comet Athletic Club president Mike Carr. “We also express our sincere thanks to Valley Plains Equipment and Thrivent Financial, Sue Strand and Jeremy Strand, who contributed to the cause. A beautiful gun safe donated by Valley Plains Equipment will be raffled during Mayville State’s homecoming festivities on Oct. 17.”

The Sportsmen’s Raffle is a major fundraiser for the Comet Athletic Club. Proceeds are used to support scholarships for Mayville State University student athletes. This support is key in attracting student athletes to play on Mayville State teams.
