Here's why Mayville State is right for Katie!

Why did you choose to attend Mayville State University?
I was given the opportunity to play college volleyball, and I knew that Mayville State had an extraordinary education program. I thought Mayville State would be the perfect transition from my previous school.

What do you like best about the major you’re pursuing?
I love kids of all ages, and I have a passion for teaching and coaching. At Mayville State, I receive hands-on experience, and there is no other better way to learn than that.

What do you like best about Mayville State in general?
The people, including the staff, are great. While I am receiving a great education, I get to see my best friends and teammates every single day.

Do you participate in any activities related to your major/minor? Internships? Work Study? Other?
I have had experience working in the training room with the athletic trainers. I have also coached several teams, including J.O. volleyball teams around the area.

Have you had any unique opportunities, in or out of the classroom, while you’ve been enrolled at Mayville State?
I have completed several observations in different classrooms and schools. In one of the special education courses, I was able to observe an elementary physical education class in Grand Forks and experience the idea of “inclusion.” I was able to get hands-on experience in including students with disabilities.

What MSU clubs, organizations, or athletic activities do you participate in?
I am on the volleyball team at Mayville State.

How has this enhanced your college experience?
Being part of a college team is an opportunity that not everyone gets, so I consider myself lucky for being given this experience. I have learned leadership, but I have also learned how to work with others. I learn something on and off the court every day.

What has been your greatest moment as a Mayville State student?
Being given the opportunity to do what I love (playing volleyball) with some amazing people who will be in my life forever has been my greatest moment at Mayville State.

What does personal service mean to you?
Personal service to me is the availability of the professors and other staff members who are always willing to help. As a student athlete, it can be a struggle not to get behind, but professors will work with us to be sure we are successful.

What are your plans after graduating from Mayville State?
I would like to stay in Mayville and find a physical education teaching position, as well as a volleyball coaching position.
