Project Overview
During the 2023 North Dakota legislative session, Mayville State University was granted $52 million to renovate Old Main. The renovation project will modernize this historic building, providing state-of-the-art classroom facilities, greater accessibility, and better efficiency. Students, staff, and faculty will enjoy more classroom and communal space. The renovation honors Old Main's legacy as a cornerstone of the Mayville State University campus, while growing with us into the future as we continue to meet the needs of our students and prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond.
Mayville State University selected Adam Peterson and Steve Skoblik with Foss Architecture + Interiors to lead the renovation. Additionally, PCL Community Contractors is the CMaR.

Timeline
March 2026
PCL Construction/Community Contractors has provided a revised completion date for the Old Main renovation based on design changes. Original projections included a summer completion date and fall semester move-in. The accumulation of challenging existing conditions uncovered in the demolition and renovation processes, followed by necessary revision of plans to correct and adapt, are resulting in a later move-in date.
The revised completion date is now December 2026, with move-in scheduled during the semester break (late December/early January) to gear up for classes and prepare to conduct business in the newly renovated space beginning with the Spring Semester of 2027.
The renovation work at Old Main continues to progress. We are fortunate that even though there have been unexpected bumps in the road, we’ve been able to stay on track. The renovation of Old Main is an enormous project, and when renovating an existing structure, revisions and adaptations are simply inevitable.
We continue to look toward completion of the building with great anticipation for the benefits the renovated campus icon will bring to our students, faculty, and staff, and the future of the institution.
Our best days are ahead of us at Mayville State University.
