Mayville State Theatre Department Presentation of "A Doll's House"
The Mayville State University Theatre Department will present Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” at Mayville State University on November 19, 20, 21, and 22, 2009. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on November 19, 20, and 21, and 3:00 p.m. on November 22. All shows will take place in Mayville State’s historic Old Main Theatre, located on the second floor of Old Main, 330 Third Street NE, Mayville. (Handicap access is available on the east side of the building.)

The play centers on Nora, a wife and mother who faces the decision to abandon her children, but gain freedom from the demeaning treatment of her husband, whom she helped save from life-threatening illness by ethically questionable means. First published and performed in 1879, Ibsen’s depiction of Nora realistically illustrates the issues facing women, which drew much criticism at the time. Ibsen is known as the “father of modern drama” because he elevated theatre from entertainment to a forum for exposing social problems. Ibsen broke away from the romantic tradition with his realistic portrayals of individual characters and his focus on psychological concerns as he sought to portray the real world, especially the position of women in society.

General admission tickets are $8.00 each and may be purchased in advance at the Mayville State University Bookstore, 701-788-4823. Tickets will also be available at the door prior to each of the performances.
