Game Summary
After a couple storm days the Comet basketball teams finally played their double-header with the Jamestown College Jimmies. The Lady Comets kicked off the action on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse. The girls fell short to the Jimmies by a score of 82-69.
Misti Olson played a great game for the Comets. Olson scored 22 points on 7-9 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from beyond the arch. Misti did a great job driving the ball to the basket and getting easy buckets in the contest. She was very active on defense and did a great job all game long.
After Olson’s 22 the Comets saw 18 points from Ali Sonstelie and 15 from Danielle Guilbert. Ali was a perfect 2-2 from the three point line and hit on 10 of her 12 free throws. The Comets hit 28-40 free throws as a team. Ali did a great job on the boards as well grabbing 9 in the game. Danielle Guilbert got off to a slow start in the first half but finished strong with 15 points and 4 rebounds.
Jamestown looked to the play of Kellie Schuneman to get their offense going. Schuneman was the top scorer in the game with 25 points. She drove the ball well and got some open opportunities for her teammates off her drives. Allison Epping was tough on the inside scoring 17 points and recording 2 blocks. Jamestown also had 11 points from Giuli Varriano, 10 from Cori Doubek, and 9 from Katie O’Neill.
The Jimmies shot well from the free throw line hitting 25 of their 30 attempts for an 83% average. Kellie Schuneman led the way going 14-15 from the line. Jamestown worked hard on the offensive glass grabbing 14 offensive rebounds in the contest.
The Comets had a tough night shooting the ball going 18-48 from the field. The girls were getting to the basket but physical defense by Jamestown made those baskets tough to go down.
Next action for the Lady Comets is at home on Thursday, January 28, 2010 against Dakota State (8-11, 3-4). Mayville State is 5-14 on the season.
