Jamestown College @ Mayville State

Game Summary

The Mayville State University men’s basketball team was finally able to get back on the court after two days of storming postponed their game with the Jamestown College Jimmies. The Comets lost a hard fought game in overtime 88-75.

After a rough start in the first half the men came out determined on defense in the second half, holding Jamestown to just 25 second half points. C.J. Peeters came out hitting everything in the first half and was held to 8 of his 33 points in the second half and overtime.

The Comets were led by guards Anton Coleman and Alfonzo McNeal. McNeal led the team with 24 points followed by Coleman putting up 23. Alfonzo played strong on both ends of the floor with 7 rebounds and 4 assists to go with his 24 points. Anton was feeling it from the three point line hitting 4-6 shots from out there. Anton got into the lane at will and finished strong at the rim.

The Comets had solid production from Dalonte Gibson as well. Gibson finished the game with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3-6 from the three point line. After Gibson the team got a solid 11 point, 8 rebound performance from Ross Aman. Aman played tough defense on the inside in the second half holding the Jamestown big men in check. Aman was one of four Comets to play 40 or more minutes in the game.

The Comets came into overtime with the momentum after their tough second half play. The overtime period was all Jimmies as they got hot from the outside. After C.J. Peeters game high 33 points the Jimmies had 16 points from Jacob Kelsey, 14 from Hans Hoeg, and 13 from John Peabody.

The Comet defense was getting after the Jimmie defenders recording 7 steals with Micah Berge grabbing 3 of them. Berge struggled to get open in the game and had an off night shooting the ball, finishing with just 4 points on 2-9 shooting.

The men will be in action again on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 against Dakota State University (7-11, 3-4) in Mayville at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse. Mayville State is now 8-13 on the year.
