Game Summary
The Mayville State University Comet football team hosted the Minot State University Beavers at Jerome Berg Field on Saturday, October 24th, 2009.
It was parents day for the Comet football team as seniors Terri Holt, Mitch Schwindt, Chris Williams, Jake Maki, Darrell Reed, Thomas Sly, and Kasey Koepplin were honored before the game.
Minot State jumped on the Comets early and were able to come out with a big conferenc road win.
Quarterback Jon Meier led the Beaver offense to a productive afternoon accumulating 580 yards of total offense. Meier completed 17 of 21 passes for 274 yards and two scores. He added three touchdowns on the ground on the day.
Jake McLain was the lone bright spot on the day for the Comets offensively. Seeing pressure most of the afternoon, he was able to get out of the pocket picking up first downs on the ground. McLain rushed for eighty-six yards on the afternoon.
The only Comet touchdown of the day came late in the first half as McLain hit senior Chris Williams down the sideline and Williams took the ball in for the score.
The Beavers forced three turnovers on the day and held the Comet running backs in check. Ben Pease lead the team in tackles recording seven tackles with two for a loss. Tommy Weidler had six tackles of his own and broke up one of McLain's passes. Chris Compton broke up three passes on the day.
The Comets fell to 1-7 today with the last game of the 2009 regular season next week against Dakota State before playing in the Dakota Bowl.
