Game Summary
Mayville State University celebrated the annual homecoming ceremony this weekend and hosted the Jamestown Jimmies on Saturday October 10th at Jerome Berg Field. The Comets fell behind early and were never able to bounce back and gain the momentum, losing by score of 49-13.
Jake McLain was able to complete 17-of-33 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns on the day. He also added 59 yards rushing for the Comets.
Mitch Ford was the target of McLain’s longest completion of the day as the play went for 64 yards and a Comet touchdown. Ford, who also returns kicks for the Comets, finished the afternoon with 3 catches, 112 yards, and the one touchdown.
Senior receiver Chris Williams caught McLain’s other touchdown as he was the main target on the touchdown drive hauling in three passes en route to the touchdown catch. Williams, the Comets other kick returner, finished the game with 5 catches, 47 yards, and the one touchdown.
Defensively the Comets were led by Terri Holt, Cory Grover, and Billy Drake. Holt recorded 9 tackles on the day, while Grover and Drake recorded 8 each. Kendale Brown came up with a fumble recovery early in the first quarter as well. Justin Ringler was able to record 5 unassisted tackles in the game.
The story of the game for Jamestown was big plays. Time after time they were able to come up with big plays for conversions on third down and long touchdown plays. Their offense was very balanced with 230 yards on the ground and 287 through the air. Four different backs were able to find the end zone for the Jimmies.
Casey Hausauer was the top receiver on the day catching 5 balls for 110 yards and one touchdown.
Lance Johansen had a good all-around game for the Jimmies gaining 51 yards on the ground on 12 carries, catching 2 passes for 17 yards, and gaining 48 yards on three punt returns. He was able to get into the end zone in the second quarter.
The Comets next opponent will be the Valley City State University Vikings next Saturday in Valley City.
