Game Summary
The Mayville State University Comets football team dropped its first conference matchup of the year on Saturday as they fell to a tough Black Hills State University team in Spearfish, S.D. 50-12.
Jake McClain led the Comets with 155 yards of total offense but it wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets recorded over 300 passing yards and more than 200 rushing yards for a total of 546 yards of offense on the day.
McClain had 50 yards rushing and was 8-22 for 105 yards through the air. MSU's only offensive score came in the fourth quarter when McClain found John Drees for a 30-yard score.
The MSU defense got on the board in the third quarter when Clifton Krotz intercepted a BHSU pass and returned it 60 yards for a score.
Senior receiver Chris Williams led the Comets with 4 receptions for a total of 41 yards receiving.
With the loss, MSU falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Dakota Athletic Conference play. The Comets will face South Dakota Tech on Saturday with game time set for 1:30 p.m.
