On the defensive side of the ball Mayville State was lead by Thomas Sly and Billy Drake, each recording 8 tackles. Sly picked off Clint Linthicum in the fourth quarter as well. The biggest play of the day on defense came in the second quarter when Junior Ian Beaton from Grand Forks, North Dakota picked off Linthicum taking the ball all the way to the house for a 59 yard touchdown. That made the score 24-0 and really gave control of the game to the Comets. The Comets recorded a third interception in this game when Gairachiou Strozier came up with an interception returning the ball 17 yards.

Mayville State had a total of 491 yards on offense and forced four turnovers on defense. The Comets ran for 234 yards this afternoon which helped them control the clock and the pace of the game.
