September 03, 2009

Game Summary

The University of Minnesota-Crookston football team pulled away from the Mayville State University Comets in the second half on Thursday night en route to a 47-21 win at Jerome Berg Field in Mayville.

MSU trailed 24-7 at halftime and cut the lead to 24-14 in the third quarter. The Comets controlled the momentum in the first part of the second half and drove down to the goal line again, but a fumble on the goal line turned it over to the Golden Eagles. UM-C would score after the turnover to go up 31-14 and never looked back.

Jake McClain carried the offensive load for the Comets, completing 22 of 40 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown. McClain connected with wide receiver Tanner Carpenter nine times on the evening. Carpenter racked up 71 yards and a touchdown.

McClain also rushed the football 17 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

UM-C was led by running back Keith McBride, who rushed 27 times for 210 yards on the ground.

The Comets are now 0-1 on the young 2009 season and will move on to play Trinity Bible College next Saturday at home.
