Game Summary

Mayville State University split a pair of slugfests with the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday in a non-conference double header in Crookston, Minnesota. Mayville State won the first game 15-14 and Crookston took the second game 14-13.

The first game featured a combined eight home runs for both team, seven coming from Crookston. Jake McClain connected on Mayville State’s one home run and finished 2-4 at the plate with three runs batted in.

Five other MSU batters finished with multiple hits in the contest. Patrick McCray went 2-3, Kyle Swenson was 2-4, Erik Scott was 2-4, and Henry Rance finished 3-4.

Mayville scored one in the first and didn’t score again until putting up four runs in the fourth and nine big runs in the fifth en route to the win. The Comets tacked on an insurance run in the sixth for the final. Keith Shaw went five and two-thirds innings pitched to pick up the win.

In game number two Mayville scored seven runs in the top of the first and Crookston answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to pick up right where the teams left off in game number one. Crookston eventually scored in the bottom of the seventh to get the 14-13 win.

Patrick McCray was 4-5 with a homer and five runs batted in for the Comets and Erik Scott was 1-5 with a home run. Jake McClain was 2-5, Spencer Braun was 2-4, and Alex Berry was 2-3 with three runs batted in.

Matthew Mueller was hit with the loss for the Comets.
