Through the success of Mayville State Football

The Need
Increasing enrollment is key to the future success of Mayville State University. Football has the ability to affect enrollment like no other single organization. More athletes on the team equal more students in the classroom.

Scholarship dollars directly impact success on the field. The Comets Football program has had three winning seasons in the past 45 years.

In 2006 Mayville State was able to award only one-third of the tuition for 52 players. In contrast, Valley City State was awarding over half tuition scholarships for 52 players. Black Hills State was awarding full tuition for 52 players. Black Hills State won the DAC Championship in 2007.

The Benefits
A $1,000 scholarship generates a nine to one return. Every new student at Mayville State brings more than $9,000 per year in revenue to the university. A football roster of 100 student athletes would bring in approximately $900,000 annually. An increased scholarship pool will allow Mayville State to compete for the best student athletes with the best character. This is a recipe for success.

The Winning Image
A winning Comet Football team will bring a new image to Mayville State. More wins will translate into enthusiasm and pride for the program and the university, more interest from the local area and local recruits, and ultimately more students and a winning image at Mayville State University.

Installation
The current scholarship budget provided by Comet Athletic Club is $55,000 annually. The ultimate goal is to raise an additional $100,000 every year for football scholarships.

Kickoff: $10,000 raised by January 15, 2008
Scholarship commitments in the Kickoff period will have an immediate impact on Comet football by allowing coaches to offer scholarships to student athletes for the 2008 season.

1st and Goal: $50,000 raised by November 1, 2008
Adding $50,000 in new scholarships will have a significant impact on the coaches’ ability to recruit. Approximately thirty new student athletes can be added to the roster.

2nd and Goal: $75,000 raised by November 1, 2009
A $75,000 increase in scholarships will allow the team to be “two deep” with highly competitive student athletes. There will be competition and depth at key positions on the field.

3rd and Goal: $100,000 raised by November 1, 2010
Adding $100,000 in new scholarships will provide the team with a full traveling roster of top-notch student athletes. There will be competition and depth at all positions.

4th and Goal: $100,000 raised annually
Raising $100,000 in additional scholarships each year will have an enormous impact on Mayville State by increasing enrollment, increasing revenue, and bringing a winning image to the university.

Execution
Help sponsor a scholarship individually or as part of a group. The goal is to be able to award scholarships of $1,000 or more. Your gift of $200 or more will go a long way toward this goal.

Individual donation—We need you to join the “Fourth and Goal” drive. Your annual, tax-deductible, scholarship commitment will be recognized in a list of “Fourth and Goal” donors and as part of your lifetime giving to Mayville State.

Group donation—You can join the “Fourth and Goal” drive as a team. Get your friends and teammates on your giving roster and make an annual commitment to Comets Football scholarships.
