Russell to Play for the Comets
Mayville State Head Women’s Basketball Coach Dennis Hutter has announced the signing of Melanie Russell for the 2009-2010 women’s basketball season. Russell, from Larimore, N.D., has signed a Dakota Athletic Conference Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Comets. Melanie is a 6’3” post player who has been a stand-out basketball player for the Larimore High Polar Bears over the past several seasons. She has earned the attention of several Division I collegiate programs throughout the region. Last season she averaged 11 points per game and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field. She has garnered Most-Improved and Most-Spirited Awards this past season. “Melanie’s combination of athleticism and size will create many match-up problems for other teams,” commented Coach Hutter. “Melanie has a chance to be a very special player at Mayville State, and we are thrilled that she had decided to continue her academic and athletic career as a Comet.” Melanie is the daughter of Jeanie Vigen and Philip Russe
