The Certification in Biotechnology program is developed for students with a high school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). After completion of this certificate program, students will be qualified for many entry-level positions either in a medical hospital or clinic setting, or biotechnology-based industries. Alternately, those with prior experience and/or education can use the certificate as a bridge to increasing demonstrated qualifications for more advanced positions. This program will prepare a student in a little under a year with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in these emerging fields.
The program includes classroom courses in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Cell/Molecular Biology, followed by laboratory courses teaching necessary technique proficiencies needed in the analyses and utilization of biological subjects for industrial uses. Students will be trained in laboratory skills in culturing and identifying disease-causing microbes, working with nucleic acid and protein analysis, plasmid isolation and gene cloning, and hands-on experiences in lobotomy.
