Mayville State University President Dr. Brian Van Horn delivered his first state of the university address at Mayville State University to a nearly-full Classroom Building Auditorium on the Mayville State campus Wednesday morning, Aug. 15. The address, which is traditionally held as part of the pre-service activities for faculty and staff prior to the start of each academic year, was attended by a number of community leaders, retired faculty and staff, and alumni as well. All who attended were invited to enjoy lunch in the campus dining services following the presentation.

In his address, Van Horn laid out his priorities for his first 12 to 36 months as Mayville State’s president: collaborations and partnerships, direction and growth, and funding priorities. He underscored the importance of the university being student-focused and highlighted student success stories by introducing four Mayville State students, Mia Gurgian, Brady Nygaard, Darrel Wilson, and Harley Boulanger. Nygaard and Wilson were in the audience.

Dr. Van Horn wrapped up his presentation by saying he’s “Comet proud.” He said, “We’re Mayville State University. We do what we do and we do what we do well. I’m proud of what we stand for. I’m proud of our faculty, our staff, and how we treat students.”

Selected for the post of Mayville State University president in March of 2018, Van Horn officially began his duties at the university in July. He came to Mayville from Murray State University in Kentucky, where he most recently served as associate provost and dean of the Paducah Regional Campus.
