Mayville State Collegiate DECA chapter successful at state conference

Mayville State University’s Collegiate DECA chapter made a strong impact at the North Dakota Collegiate DECA Career Development Conference in Fargo, N.D. Feb. 9 and 10. The annual state conference provides an opportunity to compete in business-related events. More than 100 students representing eleven North Dakota colleges and universities participated. Several Mayville State students qualified for the international competition which will be held in Washington, D.C. April 23-26.

Mayville State award-winners and the events in which they competed are as follows:

Business Research
1st place - Hailey Vold, Barnesville, Minn.; Cierra Steele, Pingree, N.D.; Kiah Smith, Lansford, N.D.
2nd place - Nisa Rajput, Harare, Zimbabwe; Niralee Ranchod, Harare, Zimbabwe; Rochester Mugumbate, Mutare, Zimbabwe.

 

Project Management
1st place - Amber Montag, Finley, N.D.
2nd place - Kaitlyn Timian, Arthur, N.D.
3rd place - Adam Edwards, Letchworth Garden City, England.

 

Accounting
2nd place - Rochester Mugumbate, Mutare, Zimbabwe.

Banking Financial Services
2nd place - Landon Rude, Pembina, N.D.

 

Fashion Merchandising & Marketing
National Qualifier - Laura Ewert, Devils Lake, N.D.

Sales Management Meeting

National Qualifier - DJ Carroll, New Brighton, Minn.

In addition to a great showing in the competitive events, Mayville State University also won three team awards: Community Service Award, 25+ Chapters Challenge, 30% Member Increase Award. MSU chapter members Wesley Bernier and Cierra Steele received the North Dakota Collegiate DECA Outstanding Service Award. Mayville State’s Rob Johnston was named North Dakota Advisor of the Year. The conference was capped off with the election of Mayville State student Amber Montag, Finley, N.D., as vice president of North Dakota Collegiate DECA for the 2014-2015 school year.
