About UsCareer Services and Internships offers a number of vital services to students, staff, and alumni. The office serves as a resource center for information and experiences that identify opportunities for making informed and responsible career decisions in a labor market characterized by economic, demographic, and technological change. Information is provided through websites, printed materials, seminars, and one-on-one career advisement. Job opportunities (campus, local, national, fulltime, internships, and so on) are posted at the web-based MSU Jobs Network, and our office provides students with access to an online career planning and assessment tool called MyPlan. We coordinate a number of exciting and helpful hands-on career exploration strategies, including Internships and Job Shadowing. An internship is a job related to your major (for credit and usually paid), and are available to all majors. Job Shadowing is an opportunity to "shadow" an employer for a period of time or simply conduct an information interview to learn the specifics of a career area or specific occupation. Career Services offers seminars and advisement on a variety of topics related to career exploration, graduate/professional school information, and job search strategies. DVDs, videos and print resources are available for student use in preparing for a job search. Graduating seniors and alumni are offered various forms of assistance to help them find appropriate and satisfying employment. Working collaboratively with other campuses in the region, Career Services offers students and graduating seniors access to Job and Career Fairs where exciting opportunities can be found for both career and internship positions. Our goal is to actively engage freshmen through seniors in their career development, and empower all students to find the right career for them. We strongly believe that “career decision-making is a process, not an event!” |
