Moodle is MSU’s Learning Management System (LMS). Moodle was to support constructivist learning. Moodle can be used as a simple course document repository or as a virtual learning environment. Employees of the North Dakota University System can access Moodle through their Connect ND credentials.

Blackboard Collaborate is a web conferencing tool offered by the NDUS. Bb Collaborate delivers an updated, easy to use and highly accessible web conferencing interface enabling more collaboration choices to support your pedagogical goals.

Blackboard Collaborate Enterprise Instant Messaging or also referred to Blackboard IM, is an instant messaging and voice chat tool that allows students and instructors to communicate and collaborate synchronously online. Blackboard IM works with Moodle to automatically populate students from their courses into contact lists with their classmates. With the addition of a presence indicator, it’s easy for students to find peers and spontaneously collaborate live online.

Blackboard IM features include:

  • Blended audio and video conferencing
  • A unified window for collaborating desktops and for using a whiteboard
  • Queued chat for organizing students during tutoring
  • Virtual office hours for instructors
  • Automatic population of classmates and courses
  • Group chats, sharing and collaboration

Tegrity is a lecture and content capture software that was chosen by the ND University System to provide that service for its 11 campuses. Tegrity enables faculty, students and staff to record presentations, lessons, training, an entire lecture, and more. The recorded content is searchable, provides for note-taking and participant rating of content, can be streamed live, and can be used on portable devices having internet access. Tegrity integrates with Moodle and is ADA compliant.

Audio Conferencing

The ALT telephone bridge currently supports a maximum of 46 connections and up to ten simultaneous conferences. This service is offered at no cost to anyone within the North Dakota University System. It is also available to other educational, governmental, and non-profit groups in North Dakota for a nominal fee.

Media Storage

MSU offers its instructors storage for media content which can be streamed or downloaded by students.
